Afghanistan Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Afghanistan, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Winds from the Mediterranean, Central Asia, and South Asia all bring different weather systems to Afghanistan. Storms from the west can cause sudden changes in air pressure. The Indian monsoon, though it weakens by the time it reaches Afghanistan, also affects summer pressure patterns.

Geography

Afghanistan has many mountains and valleys. High mountains block winds and trap cooler, heavier air, causing higher pressure in some places. Valleys and lowlands often have lower air pressure, especially when they get warmer than the mountains.

Seasonal Cycles

In winter, very cold air sits over Central Asia, making a place of high pressure north of Afghanistan. This pushes cold, dry winds south into the country. In summer, Afghanistan heats up, creating a low-pressure area that pulls in warmer, moister air from the south, especially toward the southeast.

Climate Change

As the climate changes, summer heat waves can make low-pressure systems stronger and longer. Winters may have less high pressure if they become warmer. Drier weather in some areas and more intense storms in others are signs that air pressure patterns are shifting because of climate change.

Places in Afghanistan

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Afghanistan Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Afghanistan to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
