Botswana Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Botswana, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Botswana’s air pressure is mainly shaped by two big weather systems: the subtropical high-pressure belt and tropical low-pressure systems. In the dry winter, the Kalahari High forms over the country, bringing stable, clear skies and high pressure. In summer, the Intertropical Convergence Zone moves south, bringing lower pressure and sometimes storms.

Geography

Botswana’s geography influences how air pressure is distributed. The country is landlocked and mostly flat with the Kalahari Desert covering much of it. Desert land heats up quickly, leading to lower pressure zones during the day, especially in summer. Without nearby oceans, there’s less moisture, which helps keep pressure higher than in coastal regions.

Seasonal Cycles

Seasons cause clear air pressure cycles. In winter (May to August), high pressure dominates, making the air dry and cool. In summer (November to March), lower pressure allows moist air from the north, sometimes causing thunderstorms and rain. Transitions between seasons bring shifting pressure patterns that can create strong winds.

Climate Change

Climate change is affecting air pressure in Botswana. Rising temperatures can lower surface pressure in summer, which may lead to stronger thunderstorms or more unpredictable rain. Changing global weather patterns can also shift the timing and strength of the pressure systems that control Botswana’s weather.

Places in Botswana

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Botswana Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Botswana to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
