Italy Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Italy, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Weather systems often change air pressure in Italy. Low-pressure systems from the Atlantic bring clouds and rain, especially in the north and west. High-pressure systems from Africa bring dry, sunny weather, mostly in the south. Sometimes cold air from eastern Europe creates high pressure and colder weather in winter.

Geography

Italy’s mountains and seas shape pressure patterns. The Alps block cold air from the north, making northern Italy different from the south. The Apennines split the country, so air pressure can change quickly between the east and west. The surrounding seas help keep coastal pressure more steady and less extreme.

Seasonal Cycles

Pressure is higher in summer because of stable, dry air over the Mediterranean. This leads to long hot spells. In winter, stronger low-pressure systems bring storms and rain, especially in the north and along the west coast. Spring and autumn often have changing pressure, with variable weather.

Climate Change

Climate change is shifting pressure patterns in Italy. Heatwaves are more common, and high-pressure systems from Africa reach farther north. Extreme weather like storms and droughts can happen when pressure changes happen suddenly. Scientists watch these trends to predict future impacts.

Places in Italy

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Italy Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Italy to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
