Jamaica Barometric Pressure Map
Depending on how many places we monitor in Jamaica, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.Trends Today
Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.
Most volatile
- Portmore: 0.44
- Montego Bay: 0.42
- Negril: 0.37
- Kingston: 0.36
Least volatile
- Kingston: 0.36
- Negril: 0.37
- Montego Bay: 0.42
- Portmore: 0.44
How is it calculated?
Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.
Weather Systems
Several weather systems affect air pressure in Jamaica. Trade winds from the Atlantic often bring steady high pressure. Tropical waves and storms, especially during hurricane season, can cause sudden drops in pressure and stormy weather.
Geography
Jamaica’s mountains, like the Blue Mountains, can change how air flows and how pressure is distributed. The coast often feels breezier and has slightly different pressure from the inland hills or valleys, since the land heats up faster than the sea.
Seasonal Cycles
Pressure in Jamaica changes with the seasons. Summer usually has lower pressure due to higher temperatures and more humid air. In winter and early spring, high pressure increases, leading to cooler and drier conditions.
Climate Change
With climate change, scientists notice that pressure patterns are shifting. Hurricanes might become stronger due to warmer ocean temperatures and lower central pressures. Overall, pressure changes more often and unpredictably than in the past.
Places in Jamaica
You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Jamaica Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Jamaica to keep you informed.
Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
