Mauritania Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Mauritania, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Strong winds called the Harmattan blow across Mauritania in winter, bringing dry air from the Sahara. In the summer, moist winds from the Atlantic Ocean move inland. These different air masses cause changes in air pressure, which shape the country's weather patterns.

Geography

Mauritania’s land includes desert, plateaus, and a long Atlantic coast. The coastal area usually has lower pressure because of the cool ocean air. The hot, dry desert in the east has higher pressure. The Sahara’s heat causes more rising air and pressure differences.

Seasonal Cycles

In winter, high pressure dominates due to cool, dry desert air. In summer, the pressure drops, especially along the coast, as warm moist air arrives from the ocean. These seasonal shifts cause periods of wind, dryness, or brief rain.

Climate Change

Climate change is causing Mauritania to get hotter. Higher temperatures lead to lower air pressure because warm air rises. This may bring more intense and unpredictable winds, longer dry periods, and changes in how pressure systems move through the region.

Places in Mauritania

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Mauritania Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Mauritania to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
