Sierra Leone Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Sierra Leone, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Weather systems like the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) and the Harmattan winds often control air pressure in Sierra Leone. The ITCZ brings heavy rain and low pressure, while the Harmattan brings drier, higher pressure from the Sahara Desert.

Geography

Sierra Leone’s landscape includes coastal plains, rainforests, and hills. The coast stays cooler and more humid, which can keep air pressure steady. Inland areas, with more hills, can have bigger differences in pressure, especially when winds change.

Seasonal Cycles

During the rainy season (May to October), air pressure is usually lower because warm, moist air rises, making clouds and storms. In the dry season (November to April), cool air from the Sahara increases air pressure, bringing dry and dusty conditions.

Climate Change

Climate change is making temperatures rise and weather patterns less predictable. This affects when and how much air pressure changes. Storms, droughts, and pressure swings may become more usual in Sierra Leone as the climate keeps changing.

Places in Sierra Leone

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Sierra Leone Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Sierra Leone to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
