Tonga Barometric Pressure Map

Depending on how many places we monitor in Tonga, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.

Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.

Most volatile

Least volatile

How is it calculated?

Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.

Weather Systems

Tonga’s air pressure is mainly influenced by the South Pacific Convergence Zone and the trade winds. Sometimes cyclones bring low pressure, causing clouds and storms. Most of the year, steady trade winds bring higher pressure and stable weather.

Geography

Tonga is a group of islands, so the ocean around it affects air pressure. Sea breezes can change pressure quickly along the coast. Mountains on the islands are small, so they don’t change air pressure much.

Seasonal Cycles

During summer (November to April), air pressure lowers as the weather gets more humid and storms can form. In winter (May to October), pressure rises with cooler, drier air, making the weather more stable and clear.

Climate Change

Climate change is making air pressure patterns less predictable in Tonga. Stronger cyclones and shifting wind patterns can bring sudden drops or unexpected changes in pressure. This affects weather forecasts and can make storms more damaging.

Places in Tonga

You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Tonga Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Tonga to keep you informed.

Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
