Zambia Barometric Pressure Map
Depending on how many places we monitor in Zambia, the map displays a sampled set of barometric pressure data to give a clear overview of current conditions.Trends Today
Here you can see which cities experienced the biggest and smallest changes in barometric pressure today. This helps highlight areas with the most stable or unstable weather patterns.
How is it calculated?
Our volatility “beta” number is generated by an algorithm that analyzes hourly barometric pressure changes. It looks at how much the pressure fluctuates from hour to hour. A beta of 0 means no change, perfectly stable pressure. The higher the decimal value, the more variation there has been throughout the day or over a longer period.
Weather Systems
Air pressure in Zambia changes mainly because of large weather systems. The Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) is the biggest influence. When the ITCZ moves over Zambia, it brings clouds and rain, making the air pressure lower. When it moves away, the pressure rises, and the weather becomes dry and clear.
Geography
Zambia’s geography also affects where high and low pressure are found. Much of Zambia is high plateau, so overall air pressure is a little lower than at sea level. Mountains and valleys in some areas can cause small local changes in pressure. For example, cool air sinks in valleys and raises pressure there during the night.
Seasonal Cycles
Pressure changes follow a yearly pattern. From October to April, the ITCZ comes south and air pressure falls, bringing thunderstorms and rain. From May to September, the ITCZ moves north and high-pressure systems bring dry, cooler air. This is why Zambia has wet and dry seasons.
Climate Change
Climate change is starting to affect air pressure trends in Zambia. Warmer temperatures can change where and how strongly the ITCZ moves. This might cause storms at unusual times or places, and make dry seasons longer or shorter. There may also be more sudden changes in air pressure, leading to stronger winds or stormier weather.
Places in Zambia
You can find your city in the lists below, by using our search, or on the Zambia Pressure Map above. We're tracking barometric pressure across multiple locations in Zambia to keep you informed.
Each city includes a pressure status showing whether it's currently high, normal or low, along with two volatility values: one for today and one for the full period, usually 14 days. These help you see how much the pressure is changing over time.
